Tuesday, October 6, 2026 – Phra Phirun Meeting Room, Department of Livestock Development, Bangkok.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Surin Palare, Secretary-General of the Central Islamic Council of Thailand (CICOT), designated Dr. Ali Khan, Deputy Secretary-General of CICOT, to attend the closing and summary meeting regarding the assessment of Thai livestock establishments for export to Malaysia.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Rakthai Ngambhak, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development. Also in attendance were Dr. Yuttana Sophee, Director of the Bureau of Livestock Standard and Certification; Dr. Wanida Jaengprachak, Director of the Division of International Livestock Cooperation; an assessment team from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia (DVS); and relevant officials.
The assessment was conducted from September 27 to October 4, 2026, covering 20 Thai livestock establishments, including poultry slaughterhouses, cattle slaughterhouses, and dairy processing plants.
Preliminary assessment results were positive, reflecting the strength of Thailand’s Halal certification and regulatory systems.
The assessment team from JAKIM expressed their appreciation to the Department of Livestock Development and CICOT for their excellent cooperation in overseeing the production processes of livestock products intended for export. The assessment revealed that the inspected facilities fully complied with Malaysia’s Halal requirements. This compliance extended to the Islamic slaughtering process, the qualifications of slaughtermen and Halal checkers, the management of Halal Control Points, and the welfare of Muslim personnel.
Significantly, the assessment team from JAKIM expressed strong confidence in Thailand’s regulatory system and anticipated a positive outcome regarding Malaysia’s official review.
The Central Islamic Council of Thailand (CICOT) prioritizes developing a Thai Halal standard system that is credible, transparent, and internationally recognized, while strictly adhering to Islamic principles alongside production and food safety standards.
This collaboration between CICOT, the Department of Livestock Development, and Malaysian Halal authorities marks a significant step toward elevating Thai Halal standards, boosting confidence among trading partners, and sustainably increasing opportunities for exporting Thai Halal products to Malaysia and the global market.
The official certification decision is currently pending review by the relevant authorities in Malaysia.
