The Department of Business Development signed an MOU with the Central Islamic Committee and LINE MAN Wongnai. Opening a new market for Muslim customers, the company offers Halal restaurants on a digital platform.

The Department of Business Development, in collaboration with the Central Islamic Council of Thailand and LINE MAN Wongnai, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to elevate Halal-certified restaurants into the digital world. This initiative aims to open doors to Thai and international consumers, particularly the large Muslim population with high purchasing power, and to establish credibility for Thai restaurants on the global stage.

Ms. Aromorn Sapphaweetham, Director-General of the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce, revealed that today (September 29, 2025), the Department of Business Development held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in promoting and disseminating information about Halal-certified restaurants via digital platforms, in conjunction with the Central Islamic Council of Thailand and LINE MAN Wongnai. This collaboration will be a significant step in propelling the Thai Halal restaurant industry to international standards, creating not only new market opportunities but also a key driver of stable and sustainable growth for the Thai economy. Halal restaurants in Thailand, in particular, can adapt to the times, maintain quality standards, and create menus that meet market demands. This will enable sustainable success.
Director-General Arommon continued, "The Department, in its role in promoting the domestic restaurant business, recognizes the importance of creating new opportunities for Halal restaurants. Halal standards are crucial for restaurant owners to be aware of. This MOU will involve the Central Committee in inspecting standards and issuing certifications to build confidence among Muslim consumers and foodies in Thailand and abroad. Furthermore, sales channels will be opened through the Line Man platform, making Halal restaurants more accessible to Muslims. This also provides consumers with more options. The Department will help develop Halal restaurants with certification marks, enabling them to operate professionally, publicize their reputation, and coordinate with relevant government agencies to advance the development of Halal restaurants in all aspects.

In 2024, the global Muslim population exceeded 1.907 billion, or 23.5% of the global population. By 2050, this number is expected to increase to over 2.761 billion, representing a large and highly potential market. The global Halal food market is expected to grow steadily, reaching over US$2 trillion by 2025 and reaching US$3 trillion in the next few years." This reflects the Halal business as a rising industry that Thai entrepreneurs should urgently capitalize on. Therefore, Halal food not only caters to Muslim consumers, but also appeals to general consumers who are concerned about quality, cleanliness, and food safety standards. Being Halal certified serves as a quality seal that enhances restaurant confidence and credibility, enabling them to compete in both domestic and international markets,” concluded Director-General Arom.

Police Major General Surin Palare, Secretary-General of the Central Islamic Council of Thailand, stated, “Halal certification not only meets religious needs but is also an important tool in building confidence and adding value to the restaurant business, which in turn strengthens Thailand’s Halal economy.”

Mr. Yod Chinsuphakul, CEO of LINE MAN Wongnai, stated, “LINE MAN Wongnai, as Thailand’s leading on-demand platform and restaurant information provider, is committed to playing a key role in driving the Thai restaurant industry in all aspects. This collaboration with the Department of Business Development and the Central Islamic Council of Thailand is an important step in elevating Thai Halal restaurant operators to their full potential on the digital platform. Currently, we have over 70% of Halal-certified restaurants nationwide on our platform. We also plan to expand the number of Halal restaurants in our delivery service areas across all 77 provinces to reach a wider Muslim consumer base. This collaboration not only creates new opportunities for entrepreneurs, but also aligns with the company's "Respect Everyone" mission, which aims to provide food that meets the needs and lifestyles of Thais of all groups.
